Hickory, Nc Downtown StudioWhat to Bring to a Newborn Photography Session
Planning a newborn photo session for your baby? First of all, congratulations on your new bundle of joy! You have enough on your plate already, so as a newborn photographer in Hickory, NC, my goal is to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible to get the custom newborn photos that you’ll forever treasure as your baby’s first portraits.
You might be surprised to learn that I already have essentially everything you’ll see in your baby’s newborn photos - wraps, accessories, props, and more. You don’t even need to bring outfits for your baby to wear because I have it all covered!
There are, though, several other things I recommend that parents bring:
Supplies for Your Baby
Your newborn photo session can last for several hours. Throughout that time, we want your baby to be as comfortable as possible so they can sleep peacefully while I capture portraits of that tiny sleepy face of theirs. For that reason, please bring anything that will keep your baby happy and cozy throughout the session, like anything you need to feed your baby, burp rags, diapers, and anything you use to soothe them at home.
A Backup Outfit
As I mentioned, you don’t need to bring any outfits for your baby to wear, but if you’d like portraits of yourself and your partner with your beautiful baby, I recommend bringing an extra outfit for each of you. Portraits of parents holding their nude or wrapped baby are adorable, but it’s not uncommon for babies to, ahem, make a mess during these poses or to spit up on you between shots. Bring a backup outfit for anyone who will be in portraits with your baby.
Special Mementos
This isn’t a must, but some families want to incorporate special items into their babies’ newborn photos for sentimental reasons. These could include your wedding veil, your family’s religious scripture, a multi-generational family heirloom, a blanket Grandma knit for the new baby, etc. Feel free to bring these if you choose, although I do ask that you let me know while we’re planning your session so I can prepare a set that will look beautiful with that item.
Items for Your Comfort
Your baby is the star of their newborn photos, and during most of the photo session, it will just be me working my photographer magic with your little one while you relax in the studio. I want you to have an enjoyable and relaxed experience throughout the session, so I welcome you to bring anything you might enjoy having during your downtime, like a book, your favorite snacks, your breast pump, a knitting project or drawing pad, a tablet, a cozy blanket, and so on.
