I recently had the pleasure of photographing a precious newborn baby and I wanted to share some tips on how to make the most of your newborn session.
First and foremost, arriving on time is crucial. As a photographer, I always try to accommodate my clients, but time is of the essence when working with newborns. I allow a 15-minute grace period, but if you are past that time, I will need to deduct from your session so I can start the next appointment on time.
It's important to come prepared for the session, especially considering the warm temperatures in the studio, which can reach up to 80 degrees. Bringing a change of clothes for yourself, as well as extra clothes, bottles, diapers, and pacifiers for the baby, is essential.
For breastfeeding mothers, it's recommended to avoid spicy foods a few days prior to the session to ensure the baby is comfortable during the shoot. When dressing your newborn, opt for loose clothing to avoid any unsightly clothes lines in the photos.
Communication is key when it comes to posing and color choices. Letting your photographer know of your preferences several weeks in advance will help streamline the process and ensure you get the shots you desire. It's also important to keep in mind that some poses you see online may require editing in post-production.
Patience is a virtue during newborn sessions, as they can be unpredictable and require frequent breaks for feeding and comforting. Bringing a snack along is a good idea, as most photographers provide coffee and water but may not have a full meal available.
If your significant other is not able to attend the session, consider bringing a friend to help with posing the baby as we often work on the floor for those intricate shots. And finally, remember to relax and enjoy the experience. Newborn sessions can be a bit overwhelming, but with the right preparation and mindset, they can also be incredibly rewarding.
I look forward to capturing those special moments with your little one and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Let's make the most of your newborn session together!
