Hey there! Welcome to my photography blog, where I'll be sharing some helpful tips and tricks for preparing for your newborn session at our studio in Hickory, NC. As a photographer who specializes in capturing those sweet moments with your precious little ones, I want to ensure that your experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. So here's a handy newborn session prep guide to help you out!
First things first, let's talk about keeping your baby awake before the session. I know it may seem counterintuitive, but trust me, a sleepy baby makes for the best photos. So try to stimulate and keep your little one awake on the morning of your session. This can be done by playing with them or engaging in some fun activities. It will help ensure that they are ready to slumber peacefully during the shoot.
Now let's talk about what to bring. We've got you covered when it comes to the essentials like diapers, wipes, and bottles. However, it's always a good idea to bring some extras just in case. You never know when those unexpected messy situations might arise, right? It's better to be prepared!
When you arrive at the studio, we recommend feeding your baby. A full tummy equals a content and sleepy baby, which is exactly what we're aiming for! So take your time and enjoy that bonding moment.
Now, here's something important - you don't need to bring any special outfits for your baby. I provide a wide range of wraps, headbands, hats, clothes, and props for the session. However, if you have something sentimental or unique that you'd like to incorporate into the photos, please let me know in advance. I'll make sure to design a set around it to create something truly memorable.
During the session, there's no need to worry if your little one gets fussy or needs a break. Babies have their own agenda, and sometimes they just need a little break or a snack. We totally understand that, and we work at your baby's pace. We'll take breaks when needed to keep everyone comfortable and happy.
If you have older children, I recommend having them leave once their photos are finished. Newborn sessions can last anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hours, which can be a long time for siblings to wait. Plus, it's important to maintain a somewhat quiet atmosphere in the studio. Dad can drive separately or Grandma can meet you at the studio to take care of the siblings.
Now, let's talk about pacifiers. If you're comfortable with your baby using one, bring it along. Even if your baby doesn't seem to take to it, sucking on a pacifier can be a soothing mechanism. It can help settle your little one once we have them in place for photos. I'll even hold the pacifier for a bit if needed, so we can capture those adorable sleepy shots.
One last thing to mention - the studio will be warm. Babies love being cozy and warm, and it helps them stay settled and sleepy during the session. You're welcome to bring drinks and a change of clothes in case you think you'll get hot. Layering clothing is always a good idea to stay comfortable.
That wraps up our studio newborn session prep guide! I hope you found these tips helpful for ensuring a smooth and enjoyable photography experience with your little bundle of joy.
