When Should You Book a Spring Family Portrait Session?
Who doesn't love a great springtime family portrait? You can practically feel the warmth through the camera and the joy that comes with finally seeing the sunshine after a long winter. Not to mention, the bright colors of a blossoming landscape are always stunning. But when should you book a spring family photo session? How far in advance do you need to book?
When to Book a Spring Family Photo Session
For all the same reasons you love spring portraits, everyone else does too, so the springtime books up quickly. This can also be a popular time for next year's high school seniors to start having their senior portraits taken, and there are graduation portraits, bridal portraits, and more during this time of the year too.
With all that said, you want to book your spring portraits early. I suggest trying to book your photo session in January or early February. Still, if spring is closing in and you haven't booked your session yet, it’s always worth a phone call because you never know when your favorite photographer might have a cancellation.
Why Book Your Spring Family Portrait Session Early?
In the cold of January, it might seem too early to be thinking about springtime, but there are several reasons why you want to get your family portrait session booked early.
1. Working Around Your Schedule
Simply put, the earlier you book your spring portrait session, the more scheduling options you'll have. Spring is a busy time for a lot of families. You might have to work around spring break plans, spring sports and extracurriculars, work schedules, and more. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to be able to book a date and time that is convenient for your family.
Your springtime booking will also depend on the aesthetic you want. You want to book a time when the park or other location you have in mind will be blooming and beautiful, so booking in advance will give you more options.
2. Booking a Photographer Who Fits Your Family
Every Hickory-area family photographer can only book a certain number of sessions. We want to give our clients plenty of session time and we also need time for editing and other related tasks. In a high-demand time like the spring, we book up early, so you don't want to wait too long and find out your family's favorite photographer isn't available.
3. Giving Yourself Planning Time
A family portrait session takes planning and strategizing. You have to plan coordinating outfits for the family, figure out what to bring with you to keep the kids in a good mood, and so on. You don't want to book your portrait session at the last minute, forcing yourself to do your planning
on a tight timeline. The earlier you get your session on the calendar, the earlier you can start figuring out the details.
